How to Install a 5347SST6HT Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing a 5347SST6HT stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for 2-inch flexible metallic conduit, ensuring a secure and liquid-tight connection to a box wall.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 teeth/inch), Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Screwdriver, Hammer, Torque wrench (recommended for gland nut)
Supplies needed:
Liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit (2-inch), 5347SST6HT Stainless Steel Liquid-Tight Fitting, Seal Gasket (Part No. 5267), Locknut (Part No. LNSS/200), Box wall or threaded opening
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square cut. For best results, use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch. For high production, a power band saw with 24-32 teeth per inch, operating at no more than 400 feet per minute, can be used. DO NOT use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Fitting Components onto the Conduit
First, slide the gland nut onto the prepared end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone into the conduit, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Install the Fitting into the Box Wall or Opening
For knockout applications, insert the fitting body through the box wall or threaded opening. Place the Seal Gasket (Part No. 5267) against the exterior of the box wall, then secure the fitting from the inside of the box wall using the Locknut (Part No. LNSS/200). Ensure the fitting is oriented correctly (45-degree angle as per 5347SST6HT).
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut onto the fitting body. For the 2-inch NPT fitting (5347SST6HT), tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended value of 1600 lb-in (181 N-m) using a torque wrench to ensure a liquid-tight seal.
- Tighten the Locknut (if applicable)
If using a locknut for knockout applications, hand-tighten the locknut first. Then, further tighten the locknut an additional 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver, or an equivalent method, as per UL, CSA, and NEMA recommendations.
