How to Install a 5353SST6 Liquid-tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly assembling and installing a 5353SST6 stainless steel liquid-tight fitting onto flexible metallic conduit, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for electrical enclosures.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Torque wrench, Standard screwdriver, Hammer
Supplies needed:
Flexible metallic conduit, T&B Series LNSS locknut (e.g., LNSS/075), T&B Series 5260 seal gasket (e.g., 5263)
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square cut. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch, or a power band saw (24-32 teeth per inch, not exceeding 400 feet per minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting, as this can damage the conduit.
- Assemble Fitting Components onto Conduit
First, slide the gland nut onto the prepared end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Secure the Fitting and Tighten Connections
If installing into a knockout, first insert the fitting body through the knockout opening. Then, place the appropriate T&B® Series 5260 seal gasket (e.g., 5263 for 3/4" NPT) and T&B® Series LNSS locknut (e.g., LNSS/075 for 3/4" NPT) onto the fitting threads inside the box. Hand-tighten the locknut, then tighten an additional 1/4 turn using a hammer and standard screwdriver. Finally, tighten the gland nut to the recommended torque of 500 lb-in (56.5 N-m) for the 3/4" NPT fitting to ensure a liquid-tight seal.
