How to Install a 5355SST6HT 90-Degree Stainless Steel Liquid-Tight Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing a 5355SST6HT 90-degree stainless steel liquid-tight fitting onto flexible metallic conduit and securing it to an enclosure, ensuring a liquid-tight and dust-tight connection.

Hacksaw, Power band saw, Metal jig, Torque wrench, Hammer, Standard screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit, SS Gland Nut, Nylon Sealing Ring, SAFE-EDGE® Ground Cone, SS Body, LNSS/125 Locknut, 5265 Seal Gasket
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible conduit with a clean square cut. Use a metal jig, a 32 tooth/inch sharp hacksaw, or a power band saw (24-32 tooth/inch, not more than 400'/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel, as this can damage the conduit.
- Assemble Components onto the Conduit
First, slide the gland nut onto the prepared end of the flexible metallic conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit, ensuring it is properly seated against the conduit's end.
- Secure the Fitting Body to the Enclosure
If installing into a knockout, insert the threaded body of the fitting through the knockout hole. Place the appropriate seal gasket (Part No. 5265 for 1-1/4" NPT) and then thread the locknut (Part No. LNSS/125 for 1-1/4" NPT) onto the fitting body from inside the enclosure. For threaded openings, simply thread the fitting body into the opening.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended value. For a 1-1/4" NPT fitting (53x5SST6...), the tightening torque is 1,000 lb-in (113 N-m). Use a torque wrench to ensure proper sealing for liquid-tight and dust-tight installations.
- Tighten the Locknut (if applicable)
If a locknut was used in Step 3, hand-tighten it, then further tighten it 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver, or an equivalent method. This procedure is recommended by UL, CSA & NEMA for secure fastening.
