How to Install 5351SST6 Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing the 5351SST6 stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for flexible metallic conduit, including proper conduit preparation and tightening procedures to ensure a secure and liquid-tight connection.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Standard screwdriver, Hammer
Supplies needed:
5351SST6 Liquid-Tight Fitting, Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC), LNSS/038 Locknut, 5261 Seal Gasket
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible metallic conduit (LFMC) with a clean, square cut. For best results, use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch. For high production, a power band saw with 24-32 teeth per inch, operating at no more than 400 feet per minute, can be used. DO NOT use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Fitting Components onto the Conduit
Slide the gland nut onto the prepared end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Mount the Fitting to the Enclosure
For knockout applications, insert the assembled fitting into the knockout opening of the box wall. Place the 5261 seal gasket over the fitting's threads against the box wall. Then, thread the LNSS/038 locknut onto the fitting from inside the box. Hand-tighten the locknut, then further tighten it 1/4 turn with a hammer and a standard screwdriver or an equivalent method. The recommended tightening torque for the locknut is 70 lb-in (7.9 N-m).
- Secure the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut onto the fitting body. Ensure the gland nut is tightened to the UL recommended value of 235 lb-in (26.6 N-m). This step is crucial for achieving a liquid-tight and dust-tight seal for the conduit connection.
