How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring a secure and liquidtight connection. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw, Band saw, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metal conduit, Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting, 5262 series sealing rings (optional)
- Cut and Deburr the Conduit
Cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, ensuring the end cut is clean and square. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge to prevent damage to the fitting and ensure a proper seal.
- Pre-assemble the Fitting Gland Nut
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until minor resistance is encountered. At this point, the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact, preparing the fitting for conduit insertion.
- Insert Conduit and Verify Depth
Align and carefully push the conduit onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit end has started into the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push the conduit completely in until it bottoms out. To ensure full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the depth specified in the provided table (e.g., 13/16” for 3/8” or 1/2” trade size). When fully inserted, the mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring. DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED.
- Secure the Gland Nut
Torque the Gland Nut to the specified value in the provided table (e.g., 200 lbs.-in. for 3/8” trade size, 300 lbs.-in. for 1/2” trade size). Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and a liquidtight seal. For threaded enclosure applications, the fitting may be installed first, then the conduit attached. For knockout applications, use 5262 series sealing rings for a liquidtight seal between the fitting and enclosure.
