Overview

The ABB 5244-PT is a 1-inch, 45-degree malleable iron liquidtight push-in connector designed for secure and reliable conduit connections in industrial applications. Manufactured by ABB - Installation Products, this non-insulated connector ensures a watertight seal, preventing the ingress of liquids and dust, which is critical for maintaining the integrity of electrical systems in harsh environments. Its robust malleable iron construction provides excellent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, suitable for demanding industrial settings. The 45-degree angle facilitates efficient routing of conduit, optimizing space utilization and simplifying installation in confined areas. This connector is compatible with standard 1-inch liquidtight conduit, offering a straightforward push-in installation method that reduces assembly time and labor costs compared to traditional threaded fittings. The non-insulated design is appropriate for applications where electrical insulation is not a primary concern for the connector itself, allowing for direct metal-to-metal contact for grounding purposes if required by the system design. The UNSPSC code for this product is 39121420, categorizing it under conduit fittings. The SKU for this specific model is 5244-PT.

How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring a secure and sealed connection. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code or Canadian Electrical Code. Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Sharp hacksaw or band saw, Deburring tool, Measuring tape, Marker, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit (UL 360 & CSA C22.2 No. 56 compliant), 5262 series sealing rings (for knockout applications, if applicable)

  1. Prepare the Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit cleanly and squarely using a sharp hacksaw or band saw. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge (Figure 2).

  2. Prepare the Fitting

DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING! Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until minor resistance is encountered. At this point, the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact.

  3. Insert the Conduit

Align and carefully push the conduit onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit end enters the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the specified depth (e.g., 13/16" for 3/8" or 1/2" trade size, 7/8" for 3/4", 1-3/16" for 1"). When fully inserted, the mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring (Figures 2 & 3). DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED!

  4. Secure the Gland Nut

Torque the Gland Nut to the specified value from the table (e.g., 200 lbs.-in. for 3/8", 300 lbs.-in. for 1/2", 500 lbs.-in. for 3/4", 700 lbs.-in. for 1"). Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance (Figure 3). For threaded enclosure applications, the fitting may be installed first, followed by the conduit attachment for easier assembly. For knockout applications, use 5262 series sealing rings to ensure liquidtight sealing between fitting and enclosure.
