How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting (5331-PT Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the 5331-PT series push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting. Ensure proper preparation and secure connection for optimal performance and liquidtight sealing.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw or band saw, Torque wrench, Measuring tape or ruler
Supplies needed:
5331-PT series push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit (UL 360 and CSA C22.2 No. 56 compliant)
- Ensure Safety and Prepare Conduit
WARNING: Disconnect all power before installation to prevent risk of shock. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code or Canadian Electrical Code. Using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit cleanly and squarely. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge.
- Prepare the Fitting for Conduit Insertion
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut clockwise until you feel minor resistance, indicating the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact.
- Securely Insert Conduit
Align the prepared conduit with the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Carefully push the conduit into the fitting. Once the conduit starts into the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To confirm full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the appropriate depth (e.g., 3/8" or 1/2" conduit: 13/16"; 3/4" conduit: 7/8"; 1" conduit: 1-3/16"). The mark should align with the top of the sealing ring when fully inserted. DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT once it is fully inserted, as the Ground Cones are for one-time use.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Using a torque wrench, tighten the Gland Nut to the specified value according to the conduit's trade size (e.g., 3/8" conduit: 200 lbs.-in.; 1/2" conduit: 300 lbs.-in.; 3/4" conduit: 500 lbs.-in.; 1" conduit: 700 lbs.-in.). Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and liquidtight sealing.
