How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, such as the 5241-PT series, ensuring a secure and liquidtight connection for electrical conduit.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Band Saw, Deburring Tool, Torque Wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit

  1. Prepare the Conduit

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician. Using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit cleanly and squarely. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge to ensure proper sealing.

  2. Prepare the Fitting

Do not disassemble the fitting. Lightly spin the gland nut down until you feel minor resistance, indicating that the sealing ring and ground cone chamfer are in contact.

  3. Insert the Conduit into the Fitting

Align the prepared conduit with the exposed end of the ground cone. Carefully push the conduit into the fitting. Once the conduit begins to enter the sealing ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit at the specified depth from the table (e.g., 13/16" for 3/8" or 1/2" trade size) and ensure this mark is level with the top of the sealing ring when fully inserted. Do not pull back on the conduit once it is fully inserted.

  4. Tighten the Gland Nut

Using a torque wrench, tighten the gland nut to the specified torque value from the table: 200 lbs-in for 3/8" trade size, 300 lbs-in for 1/2", 500 lbs-in for 3/4", and 700 lbs-in for 1". Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and a liquidtight seal.
