How to Install a 5231-PT Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides detailed instructions for the proper installation of the 5231-PT series push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring a secure and liquidtight connection in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw, Band saw, Deburring tool, Torque wrench, Measuring tape, Marker
Supplies needed:
5231-PT Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting, Listed Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit
- Disconnect Power and Prepare Conduit
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Use only listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit that complies with UL 360 and CSA C22.2 No. 56. Cut the conduit end clean and square using a sharp hacksaw or band saw. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge.
- Prepare the Fitting for Insertion
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until minor resistance is encountered. This ensures the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact, ready for conduit insertion.
- Insert and Seat the Conduit
Refer to the product documentation's table for the correct 'Conduit Insert Depth' based on your conduit's trade size (e.g., 3/8"-13/16", 1/2"-13/16", 3/4"-7/8", 1"-1-3/16"). Mark the conduit from the cut end at this specified depth. Align the conduit and carefully push it onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit has started into the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. The mark on the conduit should be level with the top of the sealing ring when fully inserted. DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Refer to the product documentation's table for the correct 'Torque (lbs.-in.)' value based on your conduit's trade size (e.g., 3/8"-200, 1/2"-300, 3/4"-500, 1"-700). Tighten the Gland Nut to this specified torque value using a torque wrench. Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and a liquidtight seal. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code or Canadian Electrical Code.
