How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring a secure and sealed connection. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national or Canadian electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw or Band Saw, Deburring Tool, Torque Wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit, Marking Tool
- Prepare the Conduit
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. Cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, ensuring the end cut is clean and square. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge. Use only listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit that complies with UL 360 and CSA C22.2 No. 56.
- Prepare the Fitting for Insertion
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until minor resistance is encountered. At this point, the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer should be in contact, preparing the fitting for conduit insertion.
- Insert the Conduit into the Fitting
Align and carefully push the prepared conduit onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit has started into the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To ensure full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the depth specified in the table (e.g., 13/16” for 3/8” or 1/2” trade size). When fully inserted, this mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring. DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Torque the Gland Nut to the specified value from the table (e.g., 200 lbs.-in. for 3/8” trade size, 300 lbs.-in. for 1/2”, 500 lbs.-in. for 3/4”, 700 lbs.-in. for 1”). Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and liquidtight sealing. NOTE: The Ground Cones are for one-time use only; replace with a new fitting if removed from the conduit. WARNING: Failure to follow instructions may result in loss of equipment, injury, and/or death.
