How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting (5333-PT series) with compatible flexible metal conduit, ensuring a secure and liquidtight connection. Note that the ground cones are for one-time use; replace the fitting if a ground cone is removed from the conduit.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Sharp hacksaw, Band saw, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit (UL 360 and CSA C22.2 No. 56 compliant), 5333-PT series fitting, 5262 series sealing rings (for knockout applications, if applicable)
- Ensure Safety and Qualification
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock, injury, or death. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code or Canadian Electrical Code.
- Prepare the Conduit
Use a sharp hacksaw or band saw to cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit, ensuring the end cut is clean and square. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge.
- Prepare the Fitting
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FITTING. Lightly spin the Gland Nut down until you feel minor resistance, indicating the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact.
- Insert the Conduit
Align and carefully push the prepared conduit onto the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Once the conduit starts into the Sealing Ring's throat, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the specified depth (e.g., 13/16" for 3/8" or 1/2" trade size, 7/8" for 3/4", 1-3/16" for 1"). When fully inserted, this mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring. DO NOT PULL BACK ON THE CONDUIT ONCE IT IS FULLY INSERTED. If the conduit is difficult to insert, it may be poorly cut or not comply with UL and CSA dimensional requirements.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Torque the Gland Nut to the specified value from the table (e.g., 200 lbs-in for 3/8", 300 lbs-in for 1/2", 500 lbs-in for 3/4", 700 lbs-in for 1"). The fitting must be fully torqued for proper performance. Refer to the product documentation for the complete torque table based on your trade size.
