How to Install a Push-in Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing a push-in liquidtight flexible metal conduit fitting, ensuring a secure and sealed connection. It covers conduit preparation, fitting assembly, and final torqueing. WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code or Canadian Electrical Code.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw or band saw, Deburring tool, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Listed liquidtight flexible metal conduit
- Prepare the Conduit
Using a sharp hacksaw or band saw, cut the liquidtight flexible metal conduit cleanly and squarely. Remove any burrs or frayed material from the cut edge to ensure a proper seal.
- Prepare the Fitting
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE the fitting. Lightly spin the Gland Nut clockwise until you feel minor resistance. At this point, the Sealing Ring and Ground Cone chamfer are in contact, preparing the fitting for conduit insertion.
- Insert the Conduit into the Fitting
Align the prepared conduit with the exposed end of the Ground Cone. Carefully push the conduit into the fitting. Once the conduit end enters the throat of the Sealing Ring, firmly push it completely in until it bottoms out. To verify full insertion, mark the conduit from the cut end at the depth specified in the provided table (e.g., 13/16" for 3/8" or 1/2" trade size). When fully inserted, this mark should be level with the top of the sealing ring. DO NOT PULL BACK on the conduit once it is fully inserted.
- Torque the Gland Nut
Using a torque wrench, tighten the Gland Nut to the specified value from the table (e.g., 200 lbs-in for 3/8" trade size, 300 lbs-in for 1/2", 500 lbs-in for 3/4", 700 lbs-in for 1"). Ensure the fitting is fully torqued for proper performance and a liquidtight seal.
