How to Prepare and Verify AMPMODU MOD IV/IV1/2/V Receptacle Contact Assemblies

This specification outlines the requirements for preparing wires, performing crimping, and verifying the quality of AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts and their housings. Detailed crimping procedures are referenced in separate tooling instructions.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Hand Crimping Tool, Applicator, Power Unit, Extraction Tools

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Wire (32-20 AWG), Keying Plugs (optional)

  1. Prepare Wires for Crimping

Strip the wire insulation to the specified length according to Figure 2, based on the wire size and contact type. CAUTION: Do not nick, scrape, or cut the wire conductor during the stripping operation.

  2. Crimp Contacts to Wires

Use the appropriate hand crimping tool or applicator (refer to Section 5 and the specific tooling's instructions) to crimp the receptacle contact onto the prepared wire. CAUTION: Ensure the wire insulation is not cut or broken, and the insulation is not crimped into the contact wire barrel.

  3. Verify Crimped Contact Quality

Inspect the crimped contact to ensure it meets all specified requirements. Verify crimp height, crimp length, presence of front and rear bellmouths, cutoff tab dimensions, absence of burrs, wire barrel flash, and proper insulation barrel grip. Confirm the wire conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area, the wire barrel seam is closed, and there is no twist, roll, deformation, or excessive bending in the mating portion of the contact (refer to Figures 3, 5, and 6).

  4. Insert Crimped Contacts into Housing

Carefully insert the crimped contacts into the appropriate positions within the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Ensure the locking lance engages the housing to secure the contact in place.

  5. Extract Contacts (If Necessary)

If a contact needs to be replaced or relocated, use the specified extraction tools (e.g., 843473-1, 843475-1) to release the locking lance and remove the individual contact from the housing. Refer to the instructional material shipped with the extraction tooling for specific housing information.
