- Prepare the Installation Environment and Review Safety
Before beginning, ensure the installation area maintains an ambient temperature between 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F) and is free of conductive contaminants. Verify that the PDU's voltage matches the line voltage of the power source. Ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection is available before connecting power distribution products to AC power to reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
For vertical (0U) PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket in the rack. Secure using a #2 Phillips screwdriver to a recommended torque of 3.0Nm. For horizontal (1U/2U) PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location on both front and rear equipment rails. Screw the mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surface. If necessary, adjust mounting ear positions by removing and re-fastening screws with a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench. Ensure a minimum clearance of 2 to 3 inches between the PDU chassis and cabinet frame for airflow, and seal unused rack spaces with blanking panels.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable to the external ground bonding point located on the PDU chassis, typically found on the surface with the outlets. Bond the PDU to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or a grounding strip/bus bar within the rack. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A).
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
WARNING: A risk of personal injury from electric shock and hazardous energy levels exists. Ensure all circuit breakers are in the OFF position before connecting input power. Turn the feed circuit breaker OFF at the power source. Verify all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Turn the feed circuit breaker ON. Wait for the operating system to load; the Main Menu will display on the screen.
- Optional: Rotate or Replace Network Controller
If desired, the network control module can be manually rotated or replaced. Using a T10 Torx screwdriver, remove the two retaining screws. If rotating, DISCONNECT the ribbon cable to prevent damage, rotate the controller, then carefully reconnect the ribbon cable. If replacing, disconnect the existing ribbon cable and connect it to the new controller. Re-install the controller and torque the two screws to 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M], avoiding overtightening.
