How to Install a Panduit EL2P Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for qualified personnel to safely install a Panduit EL2P Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) into a datacenter rack or cabinet, covering mounting, grounding, and power connection procedures for both vertical and horizontal models.

- Review Safety Information and Prepare
Before beginning, carefully read all safety information in the PDU manual. Ensure the installation environment is temperature and humidity controlled, free of conductive contaminants. Verify that all circuit breakers are in the off position before connecting input power. Confirm that the PDU is intended for Information Technology Equipment (ITE) loads with linear/Power Factor Corrected (PFC) input current. Ensure you have a reliable grounded connection available. WARNING: This PDU contains LETHAL VOLTAGES. Installation must be performed by individuals knowledgeable about AC power products.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Secure the PDU within the datacenter rack. For vertical PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket and tighten with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal 1U/2U PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U-locations on the RETMA rails. Then, attach the PDU's mounting bracket ears to the rails using screws. For high-power horizontal PDUs, also secure front mounting brackets to the PDU chassis with a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench.
- Ground the PDU Chassis
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or the rack's grounding strip/bus bar. Ensure conductor sizes meet National or Local Electrical Codes (e.g., NEC Table 250.122). This provides supplementary Earth bonding to the rack metalwork. HIGH LEAKAGE CURRENT. Ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
Ensure the feed circuit breaker for the power source is OFF. Verify all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Refer to the compliance label on the PDU for input ratings. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker ON and wait for the operating system to load.
- Rotate or Replace Network Controller (Optional)
If desired, rotate or replace the network control module. Use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws. If rotating, disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage, rotate the controller, and carefully reconnect the ribbon cable. If replacing, disconnect the old ribbon cable, connect the new ribbon cable to the new controller, and mate it to the PDU chassis. Reinstall and torque the two screws to 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M]. WARNING: Overtightening may cause metal deformation.
