- Unpack and Position the Printer
Carefully lift the DP4300M label printer from its packaging. Inspect the printer for any transport damage. Place the printer on a stable, level surface in a dry location, protected from splash water. Remove any foam transportation safeguards located near the printhead. Keep the original packaging for potential returns.
- Connect to Power Supply
Ensure the printer's power switch is in the OFF position. Connect the appropriate power cable into the power connection jack (20). Plug the other end of the power cable into a grounded electrical socket. Do not open the device casing, as there is a danger to life and limb from the power supply.
- Connect to Computer or Network
Connect the label printer to a computer or network using a suitable cable (e.g., USB or Ethernet). Ensure that all connected computers and cables are properly grounded to prevent malfunctions during operation.
- Power On the Printer
After all connections are secure, switch the printer ON using the power switch (19). Allow the printer to perform its system test; the display will show 'Ready' once complete.
- Load Label Media from Roll
Turn the ring (2) on the margin stop (1) counterclockwise and remove the margin stop from the roll retainer (4). Load the label roll (3) onto the roll retainer, ensuring the printing side of the labels faces upward. Re-mount the margin stop (1) and push it against the label roll until it touches both margin stops. Turn the ring (2) clockwise to lock it. Open the printhead by turning lever (8) counterclockwise. Adjust the guides (5) using knob (7) to be slightly wider than the material. Guide the label material below the roller (6) and through the print unit, ensuring it passes below the label sensor (9). Move the guides (5) close to the material edges without clamping. Lock the printhead by pressing the retainer down and turning lever (8) clockwise.
- Adjust the Label Sensor
Open the printhead. Press knob (3a) to release the sensor holder. Rotate knob (3) to position the sensor holder (1) so that the yellow LED marking the sensor position (2) aligns with the front edge of the label or any reflex/cut-out mark. Press knob (3a) again to lock the sensor in place. Close the printhead. This adjustment is primarily needed for materials with off-center marks, multi-strip, or irregularly shaped labels.
- Load Transfer Ribbon (If Not Direct Thermal)
If not performing direct thermal printing, load the transfer ribbon. First, clean the printhead (refer to the cleaning section for details). Open the printhead. Adjust the guide (1) on the ribbon supply hub (3) to match the transfer ribbon width by unlocking, sliding, and then locking it. Slide the transfer ribbon roll (5) onto the supply hub (3) with the color coating facing downward. Adjust the guide on the take-up hub (2) to the width of the ribbon core (4) and push the ribbon core onto the take-up hub. Guide the ribbon through the printing unit, ensuring it passes over the label sensor (6). Secure the ribbon's starting end to the transfer ribbon core (4) with adhesive tape, ensuring counterclockwise rotation. Turn the ribbon take-up hub (2) counterclockwise to smooth the ribbon's feed path. Close the printhead.
- Adjust Transfer Ribbon Feed Path (If Needed)
If the transfer ribbon wrinkles, adjust its feed path. Using a Torx wrench TX10, turn screw (1) to adjust the ribbon deflection (2). Turning clockwise tightens the outer edge of the ribbon, while turning counterclockwise tightens the inner edge. This adjustment is best performed during a test print.
