How to Assemble a WMG-PC17 Wire Mesh Grip

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC17 wire mesh grip, ensuring proper strain relief and secure cable connection for your electrical cord.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Flat nose pliers, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Electrical cord or cable, WMG-PC17 Wire Mesh Grip

  1. Prepare the Cord and Connector Body

Cut the end of your electrical cord or cable squarely. Disassemble and remove the original retaining ring and gland nut from the connector body, as a replacement gland nut is supplied with the WMG-PC17. Slide the new compression gland nut onto the cord.

  2. Install the Wire Mesh Grip and Bushing

Compress the wire mesh grip and carefully slide it onto the cable. If you are installing on a cord of maximum diameter, slightly preform the wire mesh loops using flat nose pliers as shown in Figure 3 of the documentation. Next, slide the bushing onto the cord.

  3. Assemble the Connector Body with Cord

If applicable, secure the connector body to your enclosure for threaded hub applications. For knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing to the enclosure. Insert the cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of conductors. Note: In some installations, the cord jacket may need to be stripped back to pass through the body. Slide the bushing into the connector body, then slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing.

  4. Secure the Wire Mesh Grip

Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh and firmly tighten it onto the connector body. As you tighten, remove all slack from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord to ensure proper strain relief.
