How to Assemble a Wire Mesh Grip for Cord Connectors (WMG-PC4 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a wire mesh grip onto a cable or cord, ensuring proper strain relief for cord connector applications like the WMG-PC4 series.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Flat nose pliers, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Cord or cable, Compression gland nut, Wire mesh grip, Bushing, Connector body, Enclosure (optional)
- Prepare the Cord and Gland Nut
Cut the end of the cord squarely. Slide the compression gland nut onto the cord.
- Install the Wire Mesh Grip
Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable. If installing on cords of maximum diameter, use flat nose pliers to slightly preform the wire mesh by carefully forming each loop round.
- Slide the Bushing onto the Cord
Slide the bushing onto the cord, following the wire mesh grip.
- Secure the Connector Body (Optional)
Secure the connector body to the enclosure if using threaded hub applications. For knockout applications, you may complete the assembly before installing it to the enclosure.
- Insert Cord into Connector Body
Insert the prepared cord, with the gland nut, mesh, and bushing, through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of conductors.
- Position the Bushing
Slide the bushing into the connector body until it is seated properly.
- Position the Wire Mesh
Slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Note: In some installations, you may need to strip back the cord jacket to allow it to pass through the body.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh and tighten it onto the connector body. Remove all slack from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord to ensure proper strain relief.
