How to Assemble a WMG-PC2 Wire Mesh Grip
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC2 wire mesh grip onto a cable or cord, ensuring proper strain relief and connection to a standard cord connector.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
WMG-PC2 Wire Mesh Grip (gland nut, bushing, body, wire mesh), Cable or Cord, Standard Cord Connector
- Prepare the Cord Connector
Disassemble and remove the original retaining ring from the standard cord connector. If a replacement gland nut is supplied with the wire mesh grip, also remove the original gland nut from the connector.
- Prepare the Cable or Cord
Cut the end of the cable or cord squarely to ensure a clean and proper fit.
- Install Gland Nut and Wire Mesh
Slide the compression gland nut onto the cord. Then, compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable. For cords of maximum diameter, slightly preform the wire mesh loops using flat nose pliers to facilitate installation.
- Install Bushing onto Cord
Slide the bushing onto the cord, ensuring it is positioned correctly and snugly against the wire mesh.
- Secure Connector Body
Secure the main connector body to the enclosure if you are using a threaded hub application. For knockout applications, you may complete the entire assembly before installing it into the enclosure.
- Route Cord and Position Bushing
Insert the cord through the connector body until the conductors reach the desired working length. Then, slide the bushing into the connector body. Note: In some installations, the cord jacket may need to be stripped back to pass through the body.
- Position Wire Mesh
Slide the wire mesh along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing, ensuring even distribution.
- Tighten Gland Nut
Slide the compression gland nut along the mesh and tighten it securely onto the connector body. Smooth out the mesh along the cord to remove all slack and ensure proper strain relief.
