How to Assemble a Wire Mesh Grip Strain Relief Connector (WMG-PC19)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC19 wire mesh grip strain relief connector onto a cord and compatible connector body, ensuring proper strain relief and secure cable management.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
WMG-PC19 Wire Mesh Grip, Cord/Cable, Compatible Connector Body, Enclosure (optional)
- Prepare the Connector Body and Cord
First, disassemble the compatible connector body by removing its original retaining ring and gland nut, as a replacement gland nut is supplied with the WMG-PC19. Then, cut the end of your cord squarely and slide the new compression gland nut (supplied with the WMG-PC19) onto the cord.
- Install the Wire Mesh Grip and Bushing
Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable or cord. If installing on cords of maximum diameter, preform the wire mesh by carefully forming the loops round with flat nose pliers as shown in Figure 3 of the original documentation. Next, slide the bushing onto the cord.
- Complete Final Assembly and Secure
Secure the compatible connector body to its enclosure if using a threaded hub application; for knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing to the enclosure. Insert the cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of conductors. Slide the bushing into the connector body, then slide the wire mesh along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Finally, slide the compression gland nut along the mesh and tighten it onto the connector body, ensuring all slack is removed from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord.
