How to Install the STX100-468PVC Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing your cable, assembling the STX100-468PVC fitting, and applying the sealing compound for a secure and safe installation.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Damp cloth
Supplies needed:
SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT, SC65 PUTTY SEALANT (Do not use for shielded or 5+ conductor cables), Fiber damming material, Lubricant, Proper PPE (gloves)
- De-energize Circuits and Prepare Cable
WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Before installing or performing maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor. Cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation. Trim the outer jacket to expose an armor strip length of 1-1/4 inches, as indicated in the product table for STX100-468PVC.
- Prepare Cable Boot and Secure Cable
Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body. Prepare the cable boot by either forcing the square-cut cable into the boot and cutting the boot in front of the cable, or by stripping the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cutting slices off the boot until it snugly slides onto the armor. Apply lubricant where indicated on the assembly view. Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the end stop. Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque of 1000 in-lbs for STX100-468PVC. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and the cable remains centered.
- Disassemble Fitting and Prepare Conductors
Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8”-3/8” to expose the conductor bundle. For shielded data cables, additionally remove the outer (overall) shield and filler materials, taking care not to nick or damage inner shields.
- Apply SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealing Compound
CAUTION: This fitting requires a sealing compound. Pack fiber damming material tightly into all voids between conductors and the body. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body subassembly until it completely seats. Position the cable and fitting vertically. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound following its package instructions. Dispense the compound into the end of the sealing chamber until the level stabilizes and fills to the top. CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from outside the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Allow the compound to solidify for approximately 1 hour.
- Mount Hub and Secure Assembly
Mount the hub in the desired location. Once the sealing compound is solidified (after approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub. Secure the assembly in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact).
