How to Install the STX200-473PVC Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing the cable, assembling the STX200-473PVC fitting, and applying the liquid-type sealing compound for a secure and safe installation.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Damp cloth

Supplies needed:

STX200-473PVC Cable Fitting, Cable, SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealing Compound, Lubricant, Fiber damming material

  1. De-energize Circuits

WARNING: Before beginning installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized to prevent the risk of electrical shock. This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Determine Working Length and Cut Armor

Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.

  3. Trim Outer Jacket

Trim the outer jacket to expose the armor strip length as indicated in the table. For the STX200-473PVC, the required strip length is 3 inches.

  4. Cut Cable Boot

Unscrew the gland nut from the body. Force the square cut cable into the boot, then cut the boot in front of the cable. Alternatively, strip the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening snugly slides on the armor.

  5. Feed Cable and Tighten Gland Nut

Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the end stop. Apply lubricant where indicated prior to tightening the gland nut. Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque of 1600 IN-LBS for STX200-473PVC. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.

  6. Disassemble Hub and Sealing Chamber

Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly.

  7. Pack Fiber Damming Material

Pack the fiber damming material tightly into all voids between conductors and the body. Spread strands of any uninsulated grounding conductor where applicable.

  8. Re-attach Sealing Chamber

Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body subassembly until it completely seats on the body.

  9. Mix and Dispense Liquid Sealing Compound

Position the cable and fitting into a vertical position. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound following the instructions provided on its package. Dispense the sealing compound into the end of the sealing chamber until the level of compound stabilizes. For STX200-473PVC, fill the sealing chamber to the top. CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from outside of the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners that may damage the flame path.

  10. Mount Hub and Secure Assembly

Mount the hub in the desired location. After the sealing compound has solidified (approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact).
