How to Install Star Teck™ Extreme STE Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ Extreme STE series cable fittings. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Torque Wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ Extreme STE Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select Fitting and Determine Working Length
Select the appropriate Star Teck™ Extreme cable fitting that matches your enclosure and cable specifications. Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device.
- Prepare Cable Armor and Outer Jacket
Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figure 1). CAUTION: Exercise extreme care to avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation during this process. Ensure the strip length is equal to the length of the glandnut (refer to Figure 2).
- Feed Cable into Fitting Gland Funnel
Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal armor stop (refer to Figure 3). WARNING: Mispositioned cable armor may result in improper cable armor grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through the fitting, proceed to Step 4 to remove the armor stop.
- Optional: Remove Armor Stop
If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the internal armor stop (refer to Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 3 to feed the cable through the fitting.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Optimal Seal
Tighten the gland nut using a torque wrench until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 4). Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (refer to Figure 5). Verify the cable remains centered within the fitting to ensure an optimal seal.
