How to Install the STEX125 Cable Fitting

Instructions for preparing and installing the STEX125 cable fitting, including sealing procedures.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Screwdriver, Dowel

Supplies needed:

Sealing compound (SC4-KIT-1 or SC65), Fiber damming material (if using SC4-KIT-1)

  1. Prepare the cable jacket and armor

Determine the working length of the conductors. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor. Cut the armor using a hacksaw to the strip length indicated in the table. Do not nick the conductor insulation.

  2. Trim the outer jacket and test armor stop

Trim the outer jacket to expose the armor strip length. Test the inner conductor bundle by inserting the ends into the armor stop opening. If the bundle does not pass, remove and discard the armor stop.

  3. Feed cable through gland nut

Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the armor stop (if not removed).

  4. Tighten the gland nut

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified in the table. Ensure the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.

  5. Disassemble hub and sealing chamber

Loosen the union to disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. If the removable armor stop was not removed earlier, unscrew and discard it.

  6. Trim inner jacket

Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8"-3/8" to expose the conductor bundle. For shielded data cables, follow the specific instructions in Section 2.

  7. Apply sealing compound

Depending on the type of sealing compound used (liquid SC4-KIT-1 or putty SC65), follow the specific instructions in Section 3 or Section 4 to pack the sealing chamber and around the conductors. Ensure all voids are filled and excess compound is removed.

  8. Mount the hub

Once the sealing compound has solidified (approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure it by tightening the union until metal-to-metal contact is achieved.
