Star Teck Extreme STE Series Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select the Appropriate Fitting
Choose the correct Star Teck Extreme STE series cable fitting that matches the enclosure and the cable you are using. Refer to the product specifications for compatibility.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (Figure 1). Exercise caution to avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation.
- Prepare the Cable Strip Length
Ensure the cable's strip length, which is the length of the exposed conductors and armor, matches the length of the gland nut. Consult the product table (Figure 2) for the appropriate strip length for your specific fitting.
- Feed Cable into the Gland Funnel
Insert the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop inside the fitting (Figure 3). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned to guarantee proper cable armor grounding. If the inner conductor bundle does not pass through, proceed to Step 5.
- (Conditional) Remove the Armor Stop
If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the internal armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the armor stop, repeat Step 4 to feed the cable through the gland funnel.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face (Figure 5). Crucially, ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal and secure seal.
