How to Install Star Teck Extreme STE250 Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and wiring of Star Teck Extreme STE250 cable fittings, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables. Always disconnect power before installation and ensure a qualified electrician performs the work in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench (optional, for precise tightening)
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Extreme STE250 Cable Fitting, Armored cable
- Select the Appropriate Fitting
Choose the correct Star Teck Extreme fitting (e.g., STE250) that is suitable for both the enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. The fitting design does not require disassembly for initial installation.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figure 1 in the original document). CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Verify Cable Strip Length
Ensure the prepared cable's strip length is the same as the length of the glandnut. Refer to the product table (Figure 2 in the original document) for the appropriate strip length for your STE250 fitting.
- Feed Cable Through Fitting
Insert the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop inside the fitting (Figure 3). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned, as mispositioned armor may result in improper cable armor grounding.
- Adjust for Conductor Bundle (If Necessary)
If the inner conductor bundle is too large to pass through the fitting with the armor stop in place, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). Then, repeat Step 4 to feed the cable through the fitting without the armor stop.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved, or tighten it to the maximum torque specified in the product table (Figure 4). Verify that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Keep the cable centered to ensure an optimal seal.
