How to Install Star Teck™ Extreme Cable Fittings (STE050-STE400)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and wiring of Star Teck™ Extreme cable fittings, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables in various hazardous and non-hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Screwdriver, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ Extreme Cable Fitting (STE050-STE400 series), Armored Cable
- Select Appropriate Fitting
Select the appropriate Star Teck™ Extreme fitting that matches both the enclosure and the armored cable you are using. Ensure the fitting accommodates the cable's outer jacket and armor dimensions.
- Prepare Armored Cable
Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor and trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the provided table (Figure 1). CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Feed Cable Through Gland Funnel
Insert the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal armor stop (Figure 3). Ensure the cable armor is correctly positioned to guarantee proper grounding. If the inner conductor bundle will not pass through, proceed to Step 4.
- Remove Armor Stop (If Required)
If the inner conductor bundle is too large to pass through the fitting with the armor stop in place, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6). After removing the stop, repeat Step 3 to feed the cable through the fitting.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Seal
Tighten the gland nut using a torque wrench until an appropriate seal is obtained or the maximum torque specified in the table (Figure 4) is reached. Confirm that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5), ensuring the cable remains centered for an optimal seal. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock.
