Overview

The ABB STE200GRL Star Teck Extreme aluminum jacketed cable fitting is a range-taking Teck fitting designed for secure termination of armored cables in industrial and hazardous environments. This single unit accommodates cable jacket diameters from 1.825 to 2.375 inches, eliminating the need for multiple fitting sizes and reducing inventory complexity. The 2-inch NPT hub size ensures compatibility with standard conduit systems, while the integrated Bond Star grounding locknut provides a reliable electrical ground connection for cable armor. Engineered for harsh conditions, the STE200GRL features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction suitable for NEMA 4, 4X, and 6P environments. The removable armor stop allows for greater cable range flexibility, and the built-in jacket stripping gauge on the gland nut simplifies installation. The elastomeric collar ring ensures a water- and oil-resistant seal, while the gland nut can be tightened using common tools like a hammer and screwdriver for field convenience. This fitting is part of the STAR TECK EXTREME series, which supports JMC, MC-HL, and Teck cable types. It is designed for use in ordinary locations and Class I, Division 2 hazardous areas when paired with T&B sealing compound. The STE200GRL is ideal for applications requiring bulkhead or enclosure penetration in industrial facilities, including manufacturing plants, chemical processing, and oil & gas operations. Key specifications include a strip length of 1.5 inches, gland torque of 40 in-lb, and overall dimensions of 3.5 inches (B) and 2.25 inches (C max O.D.). The throat diameter with end stop is 1.875 inches, and without end stop is 2.0 inches. This fitting replaces multiple conventional sizes, streamlining procurement and installation while maintaining robust performance in demanding conditions.

How to Install Star Teck Extreme Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing cable and installing Star Teck Extreme cable fittings (STE050 to STE400 series) to ensure a proper seal and grounding in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Star Teck Extreme cable fitting, Cable

  1. Observe Safety Warnings and Select Fitting

WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck Extreme cable fitting that matches your enclosure and the cable being used.

  2. Prepare the Cable

Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (Figure 1). Ensure the strip length is also equal to the length of the glandnut (Figure 2). CAUTION: Exercise extreme care to avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation during this process.

  3. Insert Cable into the Fitting

Feed the prepared cable through the gland funnel entry of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal armor stop (Figure 3). Verify the cable armor is correctly positioned to ensure proper grounding. If the inner conductor bundle cannot pass through the fitting, unscrew and discard the armor stop (Figure 6), then repeat this step.

  4. Secure the Fitting by Tightening the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved, or to the maximum torque value specified in the product table (Figure 4). Confirm that the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and are flush with the glandnut face (Figure 5). Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to achieve an optimal and secure seal.
