Overview

The ABB ST300-479SPVC is a robust steel fitting with a PVC coating, designed for secure cable terminations in industrial settings. This fitting features a 3-inch hub size and is engineered to accommodate outer jacket diameters ranging from 2.79 to 3.06 inches, ensuring a precise and reliable fit for a variety of industrial cables. Manufactured by ABB Installation Products, the ST300-479SPVC is a direct extension of the innovative 10464 Series, which revolutionized cable fitting installation. The original STAR TECK fitting, a predecessor to this model, was developed with direct input from industry end-users and was the first to incorporate a unique pop-on design that eliminates the need for disassembly. This design significantly simplifies the installation process, saving valuable time and labor on site. Further enhancing its usability, the STAR TECK series introduced features like a splined gland for secure grip and specialized gripping features to ensure cable integrity. The ST300-479SPVC continues this legacy, offering a safe and dependable termination solution for challenging industrial environments, including those requiring Teck and ACWU cable installations. Its construction prioritizes both ease of installation and long-term performance, making it a standard-setting component for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.

How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings (ST300-479SPVC)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, including cable preparation and proper sealing. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician following national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)

Supplies needed:

Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting (e.g., ST300-479SPVC), Armored cable

  1. Select the Appropriate Fitting

Choose the correct Star Teck PVC cable fitting that is compatible with your enclosure and the specific cable being used. Refer to the product assembly and table for proper selection.

  2. Prepare the Cable Armor

Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original documentation).

  3. Cut the Cable Boot

Prepare the cable boot by cutting it to fit snugly around the cable. You can either unscrew the gland nut, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and cut the boot in front of the cable (Method 1, Figure 3A), or strip the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cut slices off the boot until its opening can snugly slide onto the armor (Method 2, Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; ensure there are no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket for a proper seal.

  4. Feed Cable Through Gland Nut

Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4 in the original documentation).

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until you achieve an appropriate seal or reach the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting for an optimal seal (refer to Figure 5 in the original documentation).
