How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Strap wrenches, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting, Armored cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)
- Select the Correct Fitting
Choose the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting that matches your enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. Refer to the product assembly and table for correct specifications.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. Determine the required working length. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table.
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Determine where to cut the cable boot. You can either unscrew the gland nut, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and cut the boot in front of the cable (Method 1), or strip the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cut slices off the boot until it snugly slides onto the armor (Method 2). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; ensure no gaps exist between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable firmly until its armor makes contact with the end stop inside the fitting.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Seal
Using strap wrenches, tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Verify that the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered to ensure an optimal seal. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
