How to Install the ST125-470PVC Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing the ST125-470PVC Star Teck PVC cable fitting, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Measuring tape
Supplies needed:
ST125-470PVC cable fitting, Armored cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional), Electrical enclosure
- Prepare for Installation and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the ST125-470PVC cable fitting that is appropriate for your enclosure and the armored cable being used, referring to the provided table for cable and armor dimensions.
- Prepare the Armored Cable
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the specified strip length of 1.240 inches as indicated in the table. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length accordingly.
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Prepare the cable boot by either Method 1 or Method 2. Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable. Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor. CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until the cable armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting. The use of wire pulling lubricant (cat. number 15-236) will allow easier installation.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque of 1000 in-lbs (refer to the table for specific torque values). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.
