Overview

The ABB Star Teck ST250-477PVC is a PVC-coated cable fitting designed for Teck and ACWU cable systems in industrial environments. Built as an extension of the 10464 Series, this fitting incorporates direct feedback from end-users to optimize installation and performance. The pop-on design eliminates disassembly, reducing labor time by up to 40% compared to traditional fittings. A splined gland and gripping features ensure secure cable retention, preventing pull-out under load. The 2-1/2 inch hub size accommodates jacket outer diameters from 2.380 to 2.640 inches, making it compatible with a range of cable types. The PVC coating provides corrosion resistance and UV protection, extending service life in harsh conditions. Common applications include mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, and commercial installations where armored cable termination is required. The ST250-477PVC meets industrial standards for mechanical strength and electrical continuity, ensuring reliable performance in vibration-prone or high-traffic areas. No special tools are required for installation, and the fitting is reusable for temporary setups.

How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, including cable preparation, boot cutting, and final sealing. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Utility knife, Strap wrenches

Supplies needed:

Wire pulling lubricant (optional)

  1. Select the Correct Fitting

Consult the assembly view and product table to choose the Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting that is appropriate for your specific enclosure and cable dimensions.

  2. Prepare the Cable

Determine the required working length of the cable. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the instruction sheet).

  3. Cut the Cable Boot

Determine the correct cutting point for the cable boot. You can either unscrew the gland nut, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and cut the boot in front of the cable (Method 1, Figure 3A); or strip the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening snugly slides onto the armor (Method 2, Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Insert Cable into Fitting

Feed the prepared cable through the opening of the gland nut. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4). Using wire pulling lubricant (e.g., cat. number 15-236) may facilitate easier insertion.

  5. Secure and Seal the Fitting

Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 5). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered for an optimal seal. CAUTION: Use strap wrenches only for PVC coated fittings.
