This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SLK-M/SDK-M inline fuse/disconnect street lighting kit, covering cable preparation, fuse holder assembly, and final connections. Ensure all safety precautions are followed.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
1/8 inch hex wrench, Wood dowel
Supplies needed:
Lubricant, 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt 30 Amp max.), Connecting link (for SDK-M only)
- Disconnect Power and Identify Wiring
WARNING: Risk of shock. Before beginning any installation, disconnect all power to the circuit. CAUTION: Product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Identify the LINE and LOAD sides of the wiring and molded connector bodies before proceeding.
- Prepare Cable Housing
Measure the cable diameter. Refer to Table 1 (in the full documentation) to select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve. Cut off the remaining sections of the housing to match the size referenced in the Range column for your cable diameter.
- Prepare Load Side Cable
Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing. Push the cable through a sufficient distance to allow for 3/8 inch of insulation stripping. Strip 3/8 inch of insulation from the cable end.
- Secure Load Side Cable to Fuse Holder
Insert the prepared load side cable into the fuse holder. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, securely tighten the set screw to the cable with a minimum torque of 30 in/lbs.
- Assemble Fuse Holder to Load Side Housing
Lightly apply lubricant to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the fuse holder's socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps securely into position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.
- Prepare and Assemble Line Side
Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the line side (receptacle) housing, preparing and assembling it in the same manner as the load side.
- Insert Fuse or Connecting Link
Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt, 30 Amp max.) or the connecting link into the load side (plug) housing. WARNING: Do NOT use a glass body fuse.
- Connect Housings
Connect the load side (plug) housing and the line side (receptacle) housing together, ensuring a secure connection.
