This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SDK-M inline fuse/disconnect kit, including cable preparation, fuse holder assembly, and final connection. Ensure power is disconnected before starting.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
1/8 inch hex wrench, Wire strippers, Measuring tape or caliper, Cleaning cloth, Wood dowel (included in kit)
Supplies needed:
Line side (Receptacle) housing, Load side (Plug) housing, Fuse holder, Connecting link (SDK-M only), Lubricant, 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600V 30A max) or connecting link, Electrical cable
- Disconnect Power and Identify Wiring
WARNING: Risk of shock. Before beginning any installation, disconnect all power to the circuit. CAUTION: Product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. CAUTION: Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring and molded connector bodies before beginning installation.
- Prepare Load Side Cable and Housing
Measure the diameter of your load side cable. Refer to Table 1 (from product documentation) to select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve of the load side (plug) housing. Cut off the remaining sections of the housing to match the size referenced in the Range column. Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing, pushing it through a sufficient distance to permit 3/8 inch for stripping of insulation. Strip the insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.
- Secure Load Side Cable to Fuse Holder
Insert the stripped load side cable into the fuse holder. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, tighten the set screw securely to the cable, ensuring a minimum torque of 30 in/lbs.
- Assemble Load Side Housing with Fuse Holder
Apply lubricant lightly to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the assembly dowel into the fuse holder socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into its locked position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.
- Prepare Line Side Cable and Housing
Repeat the cable preparation steps for the line side (receptacle) housing. Measure the diameter of your line side cable, cut the housing sleeve accordingly, clean approximately 8 inches along the cable end, apply lubricant, insert the cable, and strip the insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.
- Secure Line Side Cable to Fuse Holder
Insert the stripped line side cable into the fuse holder. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, tighten the set screw securely to the cable, ensuring a minimum torque of 30 in/lbs.
- Assemble Line Side Housing with Fuse Holder
Apply lubricant lightly to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the assembly dowel into the fuse holder socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the line side (receptacle) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into its locked position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.
- Install Fuse or Connecting Link
Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt 30 Amp max.) or the connecting link into the load side (plug) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.
- Connect Load and Line Housings
Connect the load side (plug) and line side (receptacle) housings together, ensuring a secure connection.
