How to Install the Street Lighting Kit (SDK) Inline Fuse/Disconnect

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the 65U / SLK / SDK inline fuse/disconnect, including cable preparation, crimping, and housing assembly for both load and line sides.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Crimping tool (e.g., T&B WT111M or TBM45S with appropriate dies), Wood dowel

Supplies needed:

Lubricant, Fuse (13/32" by 1 1/2", 600 Volt 30 Amp max, DO NOT use glass body fuse) OR Connecting link (SDK only), Electrical cable

  1. Prepare Load Side Cable and Housing

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring and molded connector bodies before beginning installation. Measure the load side cable diameter. Refer to Table 1 and select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve. Cut off remaining sections of the load side (plug) housing to the size referenced in the Range column. Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing. Push through a sufficient distance to permit 3/8 inch stripping of insulation. Strip insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.

  2. Crimp Load Side Fuse Holder

Insert the prepared load side cable into the crimp barrel of the fuse holder. Crimp the connection securely. Refer to Table 2 for suggested crimping tools and dies based on conductor size.

  3. Assemble Load Side Housing

Apply lubricant lightly to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.

  4. Prepare Line Side Cable and Housing

Repeat the cable preparation steps for the line side (receptacle) housing. Measure the line side cable diameter, cut the housing to size, clean approximately 8 inches along the cable end, apply lubricant, insert the cable, and strip insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.

  5. Crimp Line Side Fuse Holder

Insert the prepared line side cable into the crimp barrel of the fuse holder. Crimp the connection securely. Refer to Table 2 for suggested crimping tools and dies based on conductor size.

  6. Assemble Line Side Housing

Apply lubricant lightly to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the line side (receptacle) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.

  7. Insert Fuse or Connecting Link

Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt 30 Amp max) or the connecting link (for SDK only) into the plug (load side) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.

  8. Connect Housings

Connect the load side (plug) housing and the line side (receptacle) housing together, ensuring a secure connection.
