Overview

The ABB PS 6 Pipe Seal is a precision-molded EPDM rubber sealing system designed to provide permanent, flood-resistant protection for electrical conduits and pipes in industrial environments. This seal accommodates conductor sizes ranging from #2 AWG to 1500 kcmil, with a decimal range of 0.370 inch to 1.600 inch, making it suitable for both single-phase and three-phase applications. The 6-inch Iron Pipe Size (IPS) designation ensures compatibility with standard industrial piping systems, while the 2.75-inch outside body length provides a secure fit within conduit systems. Engineered for harsh conditions, the PS 6 Pipe Seal completely closes off pipe ends while forming a positive seal around cables, preventing water ingress, insects, rodents, and dirt. The system includes interchangeable "Flood-Seal" rockets that are sized to match specific cable diameters, allowing for precise sealing. Each rocket is precision-cut to the required size and locked into the pipe seal body, ensuring a tight fit that resists accidental removal. The use of silicone grease during installation further enhances the seal's effectiveness and longevity. Key features include range-taking wire size markings on the rockets for easy identification, reduced friction during installation, and durability against environmental factors such as sun, rain, and soil. The PS Series is designed to seal all pipe installations, including those flush with walls, making it a versatile solution for power distribution, industrial facilities, and outdoor installations where moisture resistance is critical. Ideal for use in power distribution panels, motor control centers, and outdoor enclosures, the ABB PS 6 Pipe Seal is a reliable choice for maintaining watertight integrity in demanding applications.

How to Install Flood-Seal Schedule 40 Internal Pipe Seals

This guide provides instructions for installing Flood-Seal Schedule 40 Internal Pipe Seals to create a watertight seal around cables in pipe installations, including those flush with a wall. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to avoid electric shock.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cutting tool

Supplies needed:

Insulated cables, Pipe Seal body, Cable Sealing Rocket, Flood-Seal Rocket, Silicone grease

  1. Prepare Cables and Pipe Seal Body

Train insulated cables through the cable openings of the Pipe Seal body.

  2. Position Pipe Seal Body and Apply Grease

Slip the Pipe Seal body over the cables and up to the pipe opening. Apply silicone grease generously to the pipe sealing portion of the body and to the cable openings. Firmly seat the body into the open end of the pipe.

  3. Prepare Cable Sealing Rockets

Select the cut-off ring on the Cable Sealing Rocket that precisely matches the cable size and cut it. Repeat this process for each cable sealing rocket that will be used.

  4. Seal Unused Openings (if applicable)

For single-phase applications or any unused openings, seal them with an uncut 'Flood-Seal' Rocket to ensure a complete seal.

  5. Install Cable Sealing Rockets

Apply generous amounts of silicone grease to the cables and to the cut opening of each Cable Sealing Rocket. Slide the appropriate rocket over each cable until it securely locks into the Pipe Seal body, creating a positive seal.
