Overview

The ABB PS 3 PIPE SEAL is a flood seal designed for pipe and conduit applications, manufactured by ABB - Installation Products. This seal is engineered to provide a barrier against environmental ingress within 3-inch IPS (Iron Pipe Size) conduits. Its primary function is to prevent the passage of water and other contaminants, safeguarding the integrity of electrical conductors and connections within the conduit system. The PS 3 PIPE SEAL accommodates a range of conductor sizes. It supports up to three conductors in the #14 to #350 AWG range, and one conductor in the #14 to #250 AWG range. In decimal measurements, this translates to a capacity for three conductors with diameters from .160 inch to .980 inch, and one conductor with a diameter from .160 inch to .765 inch. The outside body length of the seal is 13/16 inch. This product is suitable for applications where conduit sealing is critical to maintaining operational reliability and preventing costly damage due to moisture or debris. The specific conductor ranges and pipe size compatibility make it a targeted solution for electrical installations requiring robust environmental protection. ABB's commitment to reliable installation products is evident in the precise specifications of the PS 3 PIPE SEAL, ensuring it meets the functional requirements for conduit sealing in various industrial settings.

How to Install Flood-Seal Schedule 40 Internal Pipe Seals

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for trained installers to properly install Flood-Seal Schedule 40 Internal Pipe Seals, creating a fast, watertight seal around cables in pipe installations in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Utility knife

Supplies needed:

PS Series Pipe Seal body, Cable Sealing Rockets, Flood-Seal Rocket (for unused openings), Silicone grease, Insulated cables

  1. Train Cables

Train insulated cables through the designated cable openings of the Pipe Seal body.

  2. Seat Pipe Seal Body

Slip the Pipe Seal body over the cables and position it up to the pipe opening. Apply silicone grease generously to the pipe sealing portion of the body and to the cable openings. Firmly seat the Pipe Seal body into the open end of the pipe.

  3. Prepare Cable Sealing Rockets

Select the appropriate cut-off ring on each Cable Sealing Rocket that matches the size of the cable it will seal and carefully cut it. Repeat this process for each cable sealing rocket being used. For single-phase applications, seal any unused openings with an uncut "Flood-Seal" Rocket.

  4. Apply Grease to Cables and Rockets

Apply generous amounts of silicone grease to the cables and to the cut opening of each Cable Sealing Rocket.

  5. Install Cable Sealing Rockets

Slide the appropriate greased Cable Sealing Rocket over each cable until it securely locks into the Pipe Seal body, ensuring a tight seal.
