1/2 Inch Zinc Capoff with Thermoplastic Insulating Throat, Sealing Ring Nitrile (BUNA-N) for Use with Rigid/IMC ConduitHow to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides the proper method for installing T&B liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in electrical installations.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Power band saw, Metal jig, Smooth jaw wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector, T&B 140 series locknut (if needed), 5260 series sealing gasket (if needed), PVC cement (if needed)
- Cut Flexible Conduit
Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set power band saw (not exceeding 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble Connector onto Conduit
For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, then slide on the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement to ensure protection.
- Mount Connector to Box
Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For standard installations, ensure the 'Box side' is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, ensure a locknut is available (ordered separately). For Chase® connector assemblies, the Chase® Nipple goes inside the knockout, and secure by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or turning the body onto the Nipple.
- Secure Connector and Gland Nut
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Tighten the gland nut to the connector body to the specified torque. Refer to the torque table for the correct value based on the fitting's trade size (e.g., 3/8" = 200 lb.-in., 1/2" = 300 lb.-in., 1" = 700 lb.-in.).
