Overview

The ABB LTA10020 is a 1-inch steel liquidtight adapter designed for transitioning between rigid conduit and metric connections in industrial electrical systems. This adapter features a threaded design with a 1-3/16 inch-18 UNEF-2B thread size, enabling secure and watertight connections between rigid conduit systems and metric-threaded fittings. Constructed from durable steel, the LTA10020 provides robust protection against moisture, dust, and corrosive elements, making it ideal for harsh industrial environments. The adapter meets an IP66 rating, ensuring reliable performance in wet or dusty conditions. With a trade size of 1 inch and dimensions of 1.75 inches (A) by 1.71875 inches (B), this component is engineered for compatibility with liquidtight flexible metal conduit systems. The LTA10020 is part of the LTA series, specifically designed for use with AN-MS connector shells (sizes 20 and 22). This adapter is essential for maintaining the integrity of electrical enclosures and wiring pathways, preventing ingress that could lead to equipment failure or safety hazards. Its precise threading ensures a reliable connection, while the steel construction offers long-term durability and resistance to physical damage. The LTA10020 is a critical component for industrial electrical installations requiring secure transitions between conduit types.

How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides the proper method for installing T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in electrical installations.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute), Metal jig (for conduit cutting), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connectors (5000, 7000, 9000 series & PVC coated 3300 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, purchase separately), 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, purchase separately), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Observe Safety Precautions

Read and understand all instructions and safety information before use. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during the installation process.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (available from conduit manufacturers), a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/ln. no. set, or for high production, a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set (not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series & PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide on the gland nut, then slide on the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use the same assembly method, but tighten with a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Position the connector body on the outside of the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately) to secure the connector. For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Ensure the 'Box side' of the connector is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.

  5. Tighten Locknut to Body

    Securely tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).

  6. Assemble Chase® Connectors (If Applicable)

For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies (e.g., 5371 series), ensure only the Chase® Nipple goes inside the knockout. The lock-up can be made by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
