How to Install Elastimold Deadbreak Bushing Converters
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and connection of Elastimold Deadbreak Bushing Converters, including grounding, assembly, and mating product attachment. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized and fault current is limited to 10,000 amperes.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
600-AT operating tool, Hot-stick, Wire strippers, Crimping tool
Supplies needed:
Elastimold Deadbreak Bushing Converter, Lubricant (supplied), #14 AWG copper wire, Suitable grounding connector, Insulated cap, grounding elbow, loadbreak elbow, or elbow arrester (mating product)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. This product must be installed only by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety. Inspect all components for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. If the bushing converter has protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing the circuit. Gather all required tools and supplies, and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Ground the Bushing Converter
Insert one end of a #14 AWG copper wire (or equivalent) through the grounding eye of the bushing converter, leaving sufficient length to reach the apparatus bushing. Form a small loop and twist tightly, taking care not to damage the eye. Connect this wire to system ground using a suitable connector.
- Clean and Lubricate Bushing Converter Interfaces
Clean and lubricate the bushing converter interfaces with the supplied lubricant or an ELASTIMOLD® approved lubricant. Maintain cleanliness of all mating surfaces throughout this process.
- Assemble Bushing Converter onto Apparatus Bushing
Insert the 600-AT operating tool into the tap plug until it is fully seated. Attach a hot-stick to the eye of the 600-AT. Assemble the bushing converter onto the apparatus bushing by turning the hot-stick clockwise while simultaneously pushing the bushing converter toward the apparatus bushing. Continue rotating clockwise until the hot-stick begins to ratchet, signifying the proper assembly torque has been reached. Remove the 600-AT from the bushing converter.
- Install Mating Product to Bushing Interface
Clean and lubricate the chosen mating product (insulated cap, grounding elbow, loadbreak elbow, or elbow arrester) with the supplied lubricant or an ELASTIMOLD® approved lubricant. Install the mating product to the bushing interface by following the specific instructions provided with that product.
