How to Install the FYU-M Street Lighting Kit
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the assembly and installation of the FYU-M Y-Type street lighting kit. It covers cable preparation, component assembly, and final connections for a secure setup. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring and molded connector bodies before beginning installation.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
1/8 inch hex wrench, Cable diameter measuring tool, Cable stripping tool, Wood dowel
Supplies needed:
FYU-M Y-Type housing, Load side (plug) housing, Line end insert, Fuse holder, 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt 30 Amp max.) or connecting link, Lubricant, Load side cable, Run connection cable
- Measure and Prepare Load Side Housing
Measure the load side cable diameter and refer to Table 1 to select the correct section on the load side (plug) housing. Cut off the remaining sections of the housing to match the size referenced in the Range column.
- Prepare and Strip Load Side Cable
Clean approximately 8 inches of the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing. Push the cable through until 3/8 inch of insulation can be stripped, then strip the insulation.
- Connect Cable to Fuse Holder
Insert the stripped load side cable into the fuse holder. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, securely tighten the set screw to the cable with a minimum torque of 30 in/lbs.
- Assemble Fuse Holder into Load Side Housing
Lightly apply lubricant to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the socket and position its free end against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into its locked position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.
- Insert Fuse or Connecting Link
Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt 30 Amp maximum) or the connecting link into the load side (plug) housing. WARNING: Do not use a glass body fuse.
- Prepare Run Connection Cable and Y-Type Housing
For the run connection, select and cut the correct cut-off ring on the Y-Type housing for the cable being used. Cut and bevel the cable insulation. Apply lubricant to the cable end and the housing's cut opening. Slide the cable through until it extends 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing, then strip 3/8 to 1/2 inch of insulation. CAUTION: Do not over strip.
- Insert and Tighten Run Connection Cables
Insert the run connection cables into the Y-Type housing as illustrated. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, tighten the set screws to a minimum of 30 in/lbs.
- Assemble Line End Insert into Y-Type Housing
Apply lubricant to the line end insert. Slide the Y-Type housing up to the bottom of the line end insert and push the insert into the opening of the Y-Type housing. While pulling on the cables and holding the Y-Type housing, slide the housing towards the insert and push the insert until it is fully seated in the housing.
- Connect Load Side Housing to Line End Insert
Lubricate the male and female components of the load side (plug) housing and the line end insert. Insert the load side (plug) housing, with the installed link or fuse, into the line end insert.
