How to Install the DYU-M Street Lighting Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and assembly of the DYU-M Y-Type street lighting kit, including cable preparation, fuse holder assembly, and housing connections.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

1/8 inch hex wrench, Wood dowel

Supplies needed:

Y-Type housing, Load side (plug) housing, Line end insert, Fuse holder, Connecting link (DYU-M only), Fuse (13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch, 600 Volt 30 Amp max.), Lubricant, Load side cable, Run connection cable

  1. Prepare Load Side Cable and Housing

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring and molded connector bodies before beginning installation. Measure the load side cable diameter and refer to Table 1 to select the corresponding section on the load side (plug) housing. Cut off any remaining sections of the housing to match the size referenced in the Range column of Table 1. Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing, pushing it through a sufficient distance to allow for 3/8 inch of insulation stripping. Strip the insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.

  2. Connect Load Side Cable to Fuse Holder

Insert the prepared load side cable into the fuse holder. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, securely tighten the set screw to the cable with a minimum torque of 30 in/lbs.

  3. Assemble Fuse Holder into Load Side Housing

Lightly apply lubricant to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the fuse holder socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into its locked position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.

  4. Insert Fuse or Connecting Link

Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt, 30 Amp maximum) or the connecting link (DYU-M only) into the load side (plug) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.

  5. Prepare Run Connection Cable for Y-Type Housing

Select and cut the correct cut-off ring on the Y-Type housing for the cable being used. Cut and bevel the cable insulation. Apply lubricant to the end of the cable and the cut opening of the Y-Type housing. Slide the cable through until it extends 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing. Strip the cable insulation 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch. CAUTION: Do not over strip the insulation.

  6. Secure Run Connection Cables in Y-Type Housing

Insert the prepared run connection cables into the Y-Type housing terminals. Using a 1/8 inch hex wrench, tighten the connections to a minimum of 30 in/lbs.

  7. Assemble Line End Insert into Y-Type Housing

Apply lubricant to the line end insert. Slide the Y-Type housing up to the bottom of the line end insert. Push the line end insert into the opening of the Y-Type housing. While pulling on the cables and holding onto the Y-Type housing, slide the housing toward the insert. Push the insert until it is fully seated in the housing.

  8. Connect Load Side Housing to Line End Insert

Lubricate both the male and female components of the load side (plug) housing and the line end insert. Insert the load side (plug) housing, with the installed link or fuse, into the line end insert until fully connected.
