This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits, including preparing the conductor, crimping the lug, and applying the heat shrink sleeve for a secure, sealed connection. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules.

Wire brush, Crimping tool, Wrench, Butane torch, Propane torch, 500°F electric heat gun
Supplies needed:
Cable, Heat shrink sleeve, Lug, Joint compound, FLOOD SEAL connector bus
- Prepare the Conductor
Remove the cable insulation to the appropriate length and thoroughly wire brush the conductor to ensure a clean surface for connection.
- Position Heat Shrink Sleeve
Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the cable end, ensuring it is positioned far enough back to allow for lug crimping and connection, but ready to be moved into place later.
- Crimp and Bolt the Lug
Crimp the lug securely onto the conductor end. Wipe away any excess joint compound from the crimped area. Then, bolt the lug firmly to the contact pad on the FLOOD SEAL connector bus.
- Position Sleeve Over Lug
Slide the heat shrink sleeve forward over the lug until it butts firmly against the connector bus, covering the entire lug and connection point.
- Shrink Sleeve at Bus End
Apply heat evenly to the sleeve at the bus end using a butane torch, propane torch, or 500°F electric heat gun. The seal is completed when a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end, indicating proper sealing.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Terminal Lug
Continue applying heat, working away from the bus, to shrink the sleeve over the terminal lug. Ensure even heat application for uniform shrinkage.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Cable End
Finally, shrink the sleeve over the cable end. A complete seal is achieved when a bead of mastic appears at this end, confirming a watertight and secure connection.
