This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the RAB 45 C submersible set screw junction, including cable preparation, connection, and torquing procedures.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Utility knife, Wire brush, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
RAB 45 C junction, Silicone lubricant, Conductor cable, Set screw plug
- Prepare for Installation and Observe Safety
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect all power before beginning installation. Ensure all apparatus are de-energized. CAUTION: This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Check the package contents for completeness and inspect all components for proper fit with the cable and/or mating products. Have all required tools at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Prepare the Conductor Cable Seal Sleeve
Remove the conductor cable seal sleeve from the bus. Select the correct ring at the tip of the arrow on the sleeve based on your conductor size and insulation diameter. Cut the sleeve straight across the end of the chosen ring. For wire sizes from 400-500 kcmil, use the conductor port without a sleeve.
- Prepare the Conductor
Wipe the end of the conductor insulation clean and apply silicone lubricant to the conductor insulation. Slide the collar end of the sleeve onto the cable so that 4 inches of the insulation are showing. Strip 1 3/8 inches of insulation from the conductor, as imprinted on the bus cover. Wire brush the conductor to break up any oxides on its surface.
- Install Conductor into Bus Port
Back the set screw out to allow the necessary clearance for the conductor. Install the conductor into the conductor port of the bus until the conductor hits the bottom of the port. When the conductor has bottomed out, the sleeve tip should be even with the end of the port, indicating full cable insertion.
- Torque Set Screws
Torque the set screws to the specified inch-pounds based on the conductor size: #12 - 1/0 AWG/MCM: 110-120 in-lbs; 2/0 - 4/0 AWG/MCM: 200-250 in-lbs; 250 - 350 MCM: 300-400 in-lbs; 400 - 500 MCM: 360-500 in-lbs.
- Finalize Sleeve and Port Installation
Install the set screw plug. Apply silicone lubricant to the outside of the sleeve on the ring marked 3/0-4/0. If the 3/0-4/0 ring has been removed, apply silicone lubricant to the 250-350 ring. Slide the sleeve into the port so that the sleeve collar is flush against the end of the port.
- Repeat for All Conductors
Repeat steps 2 through 6 for each additional conductor port on the RAB 45 C junction.
