How to Install FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits, ensuring a secure and sealed electrical connection. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to prevent electric shock.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire brush, Crimping tool, Wrench, Butane torch, Propane torch, 500°F electric heat gun

Supplies needed:

FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kit, Electrical cable, Joint compound

  1. Prepare Cable Conductor

Remove the insulation from the cable end. Thoroughly wire brush the conductor to ensure a clean surface for connection.

  2. Position Heat Shrink Sleeve

Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the prepared cable end, ensuring it is positioned far enough back to allow for lug crimping and connection.

  3. Crimp and Bolt Lug

Crimp the lug securely onto the conductor end. Wipe away any excess joint compound from the crimped area. Bolt the lug firmly to the contact pad on the FLOOD-SEAL connector bus.

  4. Position Sleeve Over Lug

Slide the heat shrink sleeve forward over the lug until it butts firmly against the connector bus.

  5. Shrink Sleeve at Bus End

Apply heat evenly to the sleeve at the bus end using a butane torch, propane torch, or a 500°F electric heat gun. Move the heat source to a new position as visual shrinkage occurs. The seal is complete when a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end.

  6. Shrink Sleeve Over Terminal Lug

Working away from the connector bus, continue to apply heat evenly to shrink the sleeve over the terminal lug, ensuring a tight fit.

  7. Shrink Sleeve Over Cable End

Continue applying heat evenly to shrink the sleeve over the cable end. The seal is complete when a bead of mastic appears at the cable end, indicating a full seal.
