This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors with aluminum or copper conductors, including preparation, insertion, and proper torque application.

Supplies needed:
Blackburn Contax Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound, Aluminum or Copper Conductors, Mounting hardware, Flat and Belleville washers
- De-energize the System
Before beginning any installation, ensure that the electrical system is completely de-energized to prevent electric shock or injury. Verify with appropriate testing equipment.
- Verify Conductor and Connector Compatibility
Check the conductor size marked on the connector to confirm it is the correct connector for the specific conductor size you are using.
- Strip Conductor Insulation
Carefully strip the conductor insulation to the length of the connector barrel, avoiding any damage to the conductor strands. Refer to Figure 1 for visual guidance on strip length.
- Prepare and Insert Conductor
Wire brush the conductor thoroughly. If using an aluminum conductor, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound. Fully insert the prepared conductor into the connector barrel. Wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor. Refer to Figure 2 and 3.
- Tighten Connector Setscrew
Apply the recommended tightening torque to the setscrew in accordance with TABLE 1. The connector has one tightening torque range regardless of the conductor size it accommodates. Refer to Figure 4 for setscrew location.
- Apply Oxide Inhibitor to Flat Contact Surface
Prior to mounting the connector, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound to the flat contact surface of the connector.
- Torque Mounting Hardware
Torque the mounting hardware to the values specified in TABLE 2. For best installation practice, use flat and Belleville washers in conjunction with the mounting hardware, although the connectors will perform satisfactorily without them. Refer to Figure 4.
