This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors with aluminum or copper conductors, including proper preparation and torque specifications.

Supplies needed:
Blackburn Contax Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound, Mounting hardware, Flat washers, Belleville washers
- De-energize and Verify Conductor Size
CAUTION: De-energize the circuit before installing connectors. Check the conductor size marked on the connector to ensure it is the correct connector for the conductor size you are using.
- Strip Conductor Insulation
Carefully strip the conductor insulation, avoiding any damage to the conductor strands. Use the length of the connector barrel to measure the appropriate strip length.
- Prepare and Insert Conductor
Wire brush the conductor. If using an aluminum conductor, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound. Fully insert the conductor into the connector and wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor.
- Apply Torque to Setscrew
Identify the maximum conductor size the connector accommodates. Apply the recommended tightening torque to the setscrew in accordance with TABLE 1. Refer to TABLE 1 for specific torque values based on conductor size (e.g., 35 In.-Lbs. for 10-14 AWG, 50 In.-Lbs. for 2/0-14).
- Prepare Connector Contact Surface
Prior to mounting the connector, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound to the flat contact surface of the connector.
- Torque Mounting Hardware
Mount the connector using appropriate hardware. Torque the mounting hardware to the values shown in TABLE 2. For good installation practice, use flat and Belleville washers in conjunction with the mounting hardware, although the connectors will perform satisfactorily without them.
