How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if needed for PVC coated connectors), Locknut (for 7000 and 9000 series)
- Review Safety Information and Disconnect Power
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during installation.
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set). For high production, use a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide on the gland nut, then slide on the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. Ensure components are correctly oriented as shown in Figure 2 of the documentation.
- Install Connector into Knockout Box (If Applicable)
For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Position the connector body on the outside of the box, ensuring the 'O' ring is correctly placed.
- Tighten the Connector Locknut
Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging. If gouging occurs and exposes metal, PVC cement is recommended for repair. Refer to the torque table in the documentation for appropriate tightening specifications based on fitting size.
- Install 'Space Saver' Chase® Connector Assemblies (If Applicable)
For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, the lock-up can be achieved by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple. Ensure a secure connection.
