How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32-tooth) or Power Band Saw, Metal Jig, Smooth Jaw Wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque Wrench, Hand Protection, Eye Protection
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit, T&B Liquidtight Connector (e.g., 5000 series), PVC Cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors), T&B 140 Series Locknuts (optional, for knockout applications), 5260 Series Sealing Gaskets (optional, for knockout applications)
- Prepare for Installation and Cut Conduit
Before beginning, disconnect all power to prevent risk of shock. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end using a metal jig, a 32-tooth hacksaw, or a power band saw (24-32 teeth, max 400 ft/min). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Liquidtight Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if metal is exposed due to gouging, apply PVC cement. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.
- Secure the Connector to the Knockout Box
Insert the connector body through the knockout opening in the box. From the inside of the box, thread the locknut onto the connector body. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque using a torque wrench, referring to the provided torque table in the documentation for the correct value based on the fitting's trade size. For Chase® connector assemblies, ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box and tighten the Chase® Nipple to the body or turn the body onto the Chase® Nipple to secure.
