Overview

The ABB 3/4 Inch Straight Steel Chase Liquidtight Insulated Connector (SKU: 5363) is a heavy-duty electrical fitting designed for secure, liquidtight conduit connections in industrial and commercial installations. Constructed from steel with electro-zinc plating, this connector provides corrosion resistance and mechanical strength for demanding environments. The 3/4 inch trade size ensures compatibility with standard liquidtight conduit systems, while the straight chase design simplifies installation by aligning directly with conduit runs. Electro-zinc plating enhances durability against moisture, chemicals, and abrasion, extending service life in harsh conditions. This connector meets industry standards for liquidtight fittings, ensuring reliable performance in wet locations, outdoor enclosures, and industrial facilities. Ideal for use in manufacturing plants, data centers, and infrastructure projects where protection against liquids and contaminants is critical. The integrated insulated throat prevents wire damage during installation, reducing risk of short circuits. Compatible with liquidtight flexible metallic conduit (LFMC) and liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit (LNFC), this fitting provides a secure, vibration-resistant connection.

How to Install T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors (53xx Series)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability, and adhering to safety standards.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln.) or Power Band Saw, Metal Jig (optional, for cutting conduit), Smooth Jaw Wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque Wrench, Hand Protection, Eye Protection

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit, Locknut (if not captive or for 7000/9000 series), Sealing Gasket (5260 series, for knockout applications, if needed), PVC Cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Observe Safety Precautions

WARNING: Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection throughout the installation process.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (available from conduit manufacturers), a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch, or a power band saw with 24-32 teeth/inch wavy set at no more than 400 feet/minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end.

  4. Install Connector to Enclosure

Insert the connector body through the knockout opening in the electrical box or enclosure. For 5365 to 5370 series, ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. Secure the connector body with the locknut from the inside of the box. Note that for 7000 and 9000 series, the locknut must be ordered separately.

  5. Secure the Conduit

Tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to firmly secure the flexible metallic conduit. Refer to the provided torque table for the recommended tightening torque based on the fitting's trade size (e.g., 200 lb.-in. for 3/8", 300 lb.-in. for 1/2"). For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to avoid gouging; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.
